Ponden to Thornton-in-Craven (should have have been 14) ended up being 16 miles in 7 hours
We enjoyed yet another eggy breakfast at Brenda's with our Pounding recruit Ray, Ellie and Lisa who are all doing the PW as we have been in the same accommodation from the start. I noticed that nobody opted for the tomatoes at breakfast, perhaps because they were grown in the communal bathroom upstairs.
The next four miles set the tone of the day, we hiked down into valleys and up again over moors. The weather was bright and dry but the ground was still water-logged under foot. We took our first tea break past Old Bess Hill onto Ickornshaw Moor before decending again to Cowling. A number of farmer fields followed, not too easy to walk in shin high mud whilst intently spotting for cows. We finally rose one more time to Thornton Moor which offered incredible views into North Yorkshire. Unfortunately we missed a turn whilst coming down off the moors and ended up in Earby when we thought we were home and dry in Thorton! This added a few more uphill miles to the day but we made it to our lovely accommodation for tonight. Andrew met us at Fernside B&B with a warm smile, hot pot of tea and tasty fruit cake.
We spent the evening with Mic, Susan, Chris and Barbara in the Tempest. Wonderful company in a fantastic pub. Tomorrow we are expecting a lot of rain but hopefully a relatively short day!
We're half way to half way!
