Day 14 Landon Beck to Dufton : Save the best to last

Day 14 Landon Beck to Dufton 14 miles in 6 hours

I think it would be fair to say that dad and I were feeling a little weary this morning, after 13 days of continuous walking for 7-8 hours a day so day 14's little adreline boost certain pepped us up! The gentle walk though the stunning Tees Valley soon transformed into some rock climbing action along the crags and boulders of Falcon Clints. This was great fun and soon got us excited again, nothing like a bit of variety to get things interesting.

It's always interesting when the first few miles set the tone for the day, as there would be plenty more climbing to come.  The Tees River is just beautiful and it has been a fascinating section of the walk as it is so different to very everything else we have seen so far. So you will know how my dad feels about hights and today certainly pushed those boundaries. We eventually walked to Cauldron Snout which is a thundering waterfall from Cow Green reservoir. The next section was a scramble up the side of the waterfall on the rocks..dad managed with the challenge seriously well..I also loved his 'go up on your bum' technique which got him to the top unscathed.

We were now up high and walking on the fridges of the MoD training land, marked with danger zone posts. Fortunately the track was good and no real risk of wondering off. The real treat of the day was still to come, neither of us had any idea of what delight was still in store. The path took us into an expansive view over an enormous ravine called High Cup Gill. The North Lake Fells jaggered the skyline and the view into the ravine was unbelievable. Neither of us have seen a view like it!

Just to really test our vertigo nerves, the Pennine Way took us right on the edge of the Gill which offered some amazing views but nervous few miles. We dropped down into Dufton, both tired and achy feet..food and rest is on the order before our huge day tomorrow to Garigill!
